Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment
During combat operations from 27.08.44 through 31.08.44 while the regiment moved into the enemy’s rear area near the settlement of Oitoz, Master Sergeant A.A. Marchenko repeatedly conducted reconnaissance missions. Thus on 29.08.44 as the senior member of a reconnaissance patrol , he had the mission to determine the enemy’s firing positions along their heavily reinforced defensive belt. Having returned from the enemy’s rear area and accomplished their mission, the reconnaissance group encountered an ambush of enemy submachine gunners. As a result of the engagement as many as 30 enemy submachine gunners were killed and twelve captured. In this fight Master Sergeant A.A. Marchenko personally killed five Germans and captured two. Master Sergeant Marchenko delivered the valuable reconnaissance information to the regimental HQ in a timely manner.
I am applying for Master Sergeant Marchenko to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.
Signed Commander, 220th Cavalry Regiment, Guards Lieutenant Colonel Vdovi(?)

That's what I thought too, but I have a few like this in my collection now, very high serial numbers awarded for action in World War II. I have one which was awarded in 1992!
