Jeff,

What you consider rare and expensive was considered nothing special when I was collecting full time.

I have about 20 Red Stars with screw-post base and about a dozen of the lower numbered ones.

Jeff,

I don't want to make you cry, but I used to purchase ORS in batches of 20; out of each batch, there would be between 3 and 10 screpost base RS. And I never paid more that $9 a piece.

Yes, those were the times..... :(

Jeff,

You missed the gravy boat!

Ok, I get it guys.

Added to that line above, someone's got a fake or did they make stars at Monety Dvor before they finished at Mondvor? Your star has a different mint mark and is a higher number.

Yours says "мондвор двор" instead of just "мондвор". Alex doesn't even show that as a major type.

This is getting confusing.

Jeff,

Human beings worked (and still work) at the Mint. Errors did (and do) happen, quality varied from day to day, within acceptable parameters.

The Mondvor / Dvor mintmark is simply due to someone using the old stamp instead of the new one. Was it worth trashing an otherwise perfectly manufactured order? Obviously, the answer was "NO". I don't consider this to be a variation, but an error, which is quite different.

In all fairness, if our favorite Eb?y seller from Australia had that one up for bid, we would be all over it calling it a fake.

Jeff,

The condition is remarkable, I don't see any enamel damage!

Jeff, here are the close-ups you requested. I am also sending an email with some scans of Nr. 12107 to Mr. Filer today to solicit his best thinking. I'll let you know what transpires. . .
