Soviet Trench Art Ash Tray.

I don't know what exactly this piece is, but I am assuming it was an ashtray of sorts. This came from the same seller as the Dembel and a few other nice pieces. It's aluminum and is one piece. At first I thought this was made out of a shell casing but clearly is is not.

Interesting piece! I really like the Aurora and sub on the side. Soviet artillery at 203mm was about as big as they got. I thought about rocket bodies but this is too big for artillery rockets. Perhaps a piece of an air to air missle? In any case, very cool.

I see two subs and what looks like a supply ship, but not Aurora.

Nice box!

I talked to the seller and she said she bought it in St. Petersburg, but that's all I know otherwise. It's clearly not the Aurora, but could just be a generic warship. Now I have to find a nice place to display it!

Gentlemen, I would believe it is a Soviet "Marat" class battleship. See this pic - two funnels and similar superstructure.

Nice piece! I reckon it could be out of a submarine's, or other warship's, galley/ward room and is a serving dish of some sort. It, or the main body of it anyway, appears to have been turned on a lathe. Well done.:thumbsup

That does look like it, thanks! Hmm, I'm guessing this is perhaps a World War II-era item then. Most interesting...
