Medals and Documents

[UQWozza]

Hi Folks,

I would like to get your feelings on the following.

You sometimes see medals being sold with a military ID (Voenny Bilet) or a Red Army Book (containing details of the awards) instead of the standard medal award cards.

I realise that you get more info on what the person did with these documents but how do you weigh them against the medal award documents in terms of a group?

Ideally both sets of documents would be great but if you could only have an ID book or the medal award cards plus the medals which would be best?

Would love to hear what you think.

Simon,

The official document for the medal is the Udostaverenie k Medali. The Military ID has a page for the awards won, but it is not the real McCoy; I guess it could be used to get duplicates if the veteran lost his official award documents.

Yes, the more desirable choice is the medal or order booklet, however I have seen on rare occasion an award's serial number and other information written in a soldier booklet, which if not faked would then give more information than the mere medal or order booklet.
