Now, after 10 days, when I was the high bidder, it can be revealed...
Honorary Badges of Public Organizations and Museums". The author of this book - Vasily Omelko. Over 150 space-related badges are described and reproduced, and over 110 certificates to them are presented. Sample page I have the book in my hands. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! It is better than expected - the quality of pictures is very close to PMD's book. This is volume 1, titled "Space exploration awards - honorary badges of public organizations and museums". There are over 150 medals , each with information such as numbers issued, the designer, the mint, date of issue and the organization which awarded those medals. Tal Russian medals also covered.

Hi! I'm new to this site. I've been a Soviet/Russian Space badge and medal collector for about 8 months. I just wanted to let you know that Omel'ko's book Space Exploration Awards: Catalog, Volume 1: Honorary Badges of Public Organizations and Museums (EVP #A2021666) is now available for $89.00 plus shipping at eastview.com. They also have Volume 2: Honorary Badges and Medals of Russia's Space Industry Enterprises (EVP #799864B) for $119.00 plus shipping. The first book was published in 2002; the second, in 2007. I hope this helps!
I just received Vassily Omelko's SPACE EXPLORATION AWARDS, Volume II, Honorary Badges and Medals of Russia's Space Industry Enterprises, Part I. I ordered the book on February 15th; received it February 29th from Moscow. Pretty good turnaround! This book "describes and represents over 180 badges and commemorative medals of Russia's space industry enterprises, as well as comprises over 70 award paper illustrations." Specific space industry enterprises covered are: 1. Federal Space Agency 2. Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center 3. TsSKB-Progress State Research and Production Rocket and Space Center 4. State Rocket Center "Academician Makeyev Design Burreau" 5. Machine-Building Industry Enterprises Design Institute 6. Keldysh Research Center 7. Barmin General Engineering Design Bureau 8. Design Bureau for Transport Machinery 9. Design Bureau of Chemical Transport Engineering 10. Isayev Chemical Machinery Design Bureau 11. Rosobshchemash Corporation 12. Kriogenmash 13. Moscow Institute of Heat Technology 14. Research Institute of of Monitoring and Control Instruments 15. Academician Kuznetsov Research Insitute for Applied Mechanics 16. Measurement Equipment Research and Production Association 17. Iskra Research and Production Association 18. Lavochkin Research and Production Association There will be a Volume II, Part II. As with Volume I, the pictures of the medals are awesome. I particularly like the inclusion of commemorative medals in this volume. Well worth the price I paid for it! I don't have much time today, but I'm sending these scans to make sure they meet with your approval. I will post more this weekend. Enjoy! 1. Tsiolkovsky Badge, instituted on January 31, 2002. Quantity: 600 pieces. 2. Badge for Space Launches Support, instituted on January 31, 2002. Quantity: 600 pieces. 3. Commemorative Medal Chief Designers Council, minted November 2003. Quantity: 200 pieces. Space Cadet Last edited by CtahhR; 02-20-2014 at 03:14 PM. |

Space Exploration Awards, Volume II, Part I...
Of particular interest to me was this Commemorative Medal 10 Years of Test Center #1 of the Barmin General Engineering Design Bureau Branch.
"On May 17 and October 26, 2004, the TsI-1 and TsI-2 test centers of the Baikonur cosmodrome-based Barmin Design Bureau's branch celebrated their 10th anniversary. Commemorative were timed to those dates. The medals were presented without award papers to employees of the Barmin Design Bureau and allied organizations for active participation in preparation and launching of the Soyuz and Proton launch vehicles." Obverse: "In the central part against the starry sky background is a raised picture of the Soyuz space launch complex. At the top is the semicircling inscription <The TsI-1 Test Center of the Barmin General Engineering Design Bureau Branch FSUE>, Dates <1994 17 V 2004> are arranged in the bottom as a semicircle. At the top left is the two-line inscription <10 years>." Reverse: " In the left part is a raised picture of an obelisk built on the occasion of the first Earth's artificial satellite launch. The eight-line inscription <Here, By The Ingenuity Of A Soviet Man, A Daring Storm Of The Space Commenced> is in the right. In the upper part is the two-line inscription <Gagarin Launch Pad> and a laurel wreath is arranged at the bottom." Quanity: 500 pieces. This particular medal has a different ribbon plate and the inscription "Baikonur" on it from other examples I've seen. Any comments? Thanks! |

The information I have is that SPACE EXPLORATION AWARDS: Catalog, Volume II, Part 2 will be out some time next year so for those of us who are eagerly awaiting this book we're going to have to wait a little bit longer!:D
The latest on Vassily Omelko's SPACE EXPLORATION AWARDS, Volume 3 is that it will be finished in the next year, year and a half. I guess we'll just have to cool our heels 'til then! :(
