I agree with Auke. Here is a closely-related star for comparison :D

Thanks Eric, to be quite honest it was a surprise to me because I didn't know what the number range was for screwpost bases, I figured it was much lower.
I did a fairly mad thing by buying a whole bunch of stars on the basis of this rather vague picture ;)
By taking a chance I managed to strike a bit of a bargain, I was more focussed on checking that one of them was an MZPP :thumbsup

Here's one of my new arrivals from the sunshine of Sevastopol. I got my first screwpost base and my first MzPP, I also got this one.
I've never seen a bit of damaged enamel like this one before. Its starting to grow on me a bit be cause its kind of unique. I've got a few more to post over the next few days, the good, the bad and the ugly :teehee

Yes, that unique enamel break was certainly done a long time ago. :thumbsup

When I opened this package I first thought, "ooh yeah! lovely deep cherry-red enamel, ok, one of the rays has been repaired but so what.."
Then it dawned on me that the 4 dark rays were the replacements..
I'm trying to love this one...I guess in its favour it is a genuine Soviet repair, post 91 no-one gave a damn. Its clear that someone really cherished this award and made an effort to restore it.

Get it researched.
What if it lost it's enamel as the recipient got in and out of a tank or an airplane. Or diving in a trench. If I read "Echoes of War" correctly I believe it is from June of 1944. Could have seen some action .

Or more likely dropped it on the kitchen floor in May 1965 as he was putting it on his coat for 20th anniversary. You never know with 65 years gone by...
