Fake Order And Medal Booklets
I spotted this one among a series of too-cheap-to-be-real items (including that latest Order of the October Revolution fake we are seeing now and a couple of the low-priced Kiev medals).

The first thing that is obvious is that whoever stamped the photo didn't wait until it was dry before closing the booklet (picture). Then, you will notice the overall ugly, smudged and almost rubber stamp quality low detail seal. And most importantly, I think the Soviet Union had more than 10 republics by 1954.

I would think that if one were going to received a medal and award booklet from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is altogether possible, it would come from a regional MVD office with a stamp to that effect. All this one has is, as you can see, the Russian text for the MVD: "Министерство внутренних дел" without any further information. And the pen used to sign under the photo looks like a felt-tip that was used to apply the ink to this stamp because of the identical color.

The rest of the document may in fact be real, but that stamp and probably the photo are not. Adding the fake MVD stamp allows for a higher starting price I suppose.:angerr

After seeing this, I have to call the ORS he is selling with it into question because if there is one deception, there are bound to be more. He has a number of "mint" ORSs for sale as well as other "documented awards.":dissapoint

Phillip,

There are a few more problems with this than what you stated: the uniform that the person is wearing did not exist yet in 1954.
Also, the stamp is not from the Ministry, but from its predecessor, the NKVD (which is much more sellable than anything MVD); only problem, by 1954, the NKVD had already gone the way of the Dodo bird and had been replaced by newer organizations :rolleyes
As the the star and the booklet, from what can be seen, they appear to be OK.

Additionally, a 3M+ Red Star was not being awarded (or even manufactured yet) in the 1950's.

Marc, once I saw the fake stamp I didn't bother looking at the picture other than noticing his longish hair.;) Thanks for pointing that out. My ranting post was already long enough without adding everything. I was just irritated to see this and almost posted it in "eBay Jokes" but since the ORS itself seems okay I just put it here.

I thought about that too, but since I didn't have references at hand to confirm my thoughts (I figured it might be for activities in Korea). So then this invalidates the entire booklet. I would think he could probably get what he was asking for the ORS just because of the high serial number and shouldn't have bothered with faking the booklet. [If I remember correctly, the price is about right considering the condition.]

How does this order booklet look? Are the entries good?

Auke, it looks to me that you mixed pictures of different award books.
The first side with the name could not belong to the award book with the entries (different type).

best regards

You are absolutely right, it is fixed now.

It looks like one of the 'washed' and written again books which comes from Ukraine, take a closer look, this one is being sold on the Ukrainian auction. I might be wrong but the ink is not the right one. Also if you imagine the person who used to fill those books, have a job to write whole the time suppose to have a better handwriting.

Auke,

to me the ink looks newly made. And I also don´t like the blury stamps inside.

I agree that the black smudges around the stamps looks suspicious as does the fact that so much ink was applied and not enough time taken between stamping and writing serial numbers and then closing the booklet which caused the bleed onto the facing page.:(
