Obviously, I could be wrong on this notion, but aren't the Berlin medals so numerous that faking them seems not worth the cost? I mean, has anyone seen or have pics of fake capture of Berlin medals?

Yes, I have seen fake VoG medals, even if the logic behind their making might at best seem dubious to most of us...

In Germany there is now a seller on E*** who even sells fakes of 40th anniversary (1985) orders of the great patriotic war and "victory over Germany" - medals... nothing seems to be impossible these days.
