Do you mean Order of the Red STAR?

Hi Lapa and Desantnik,

Thank you for the comments... It is Order of Red Banner. I hope I did the pics correctly. I am trying. :) It almost looks like the original serial # has been filed off and replaced? However, from what I read on this forum they would file off an "non issued" order and then put the existing serial # on the medal.....

Thank you!
Scott

Don't know why someone would put that number on it? Seems a rather clueless and unscrupulous person has done it in more recent times - destroying the history and "worth" of this particular order.

Scott,

It is not "almost like" but "definitely like" in this case :D

Someone erased the original SN from what was a nice Type 3 (possibly wartime) ORB, and engraved that new number, which does not correspond to any Red Banners.

In short, they irremediably impaired what was a very nice and collectable piece

Ctahhr - Thank you for the reply.. I dont know either.. pretty odd and it makes no sense to put on a high number.

Marc - I really appreciate your comments and compliment on this medal. I was about to put this in the junk heap. Perhaps the owner had it filed off and added the same serial # of his Order of Patriotic War Serial # to make them match? Sounds far fetched I know. Do you think this medal is likeable but fairly worthless now? :(

These are great comments.. what a great board.

Thank you,
Scott

The Order is perfectly fine from the front - just don't let anyone see behind. You could frame it and display it as a very valid original Order "Red Banner" but the "work" on the back has almost completely destroyed any value to the "serious" collector. It's a real shame someone had to modify the piece but that's just the way it goes sometimes. This Order will have been made in 1945-6 with a probable maximum serial of around a third of a million. Not quite so bad that you have to bin it though!

Here is my latest, finally paid off. ORB with the number- 560,531. It is the largest number in the database:idea.
