A comprehensive study of Bulgarian awards is in the works....
As for "Quasi-Royal" you must remember that Bulgarians are the "Imperial Communists" and whilst under Stalin's yoke had a Tsar, Tsar Simeon II, The last Tsar who is still to date alive and who not only never abdicated was elected a Prime Minister of the Republic Of Bulgaria.
The Principality, Tsarist and People's Republic eras of Bulgaria are all open influences on their modern awards... Although the main focus is upon the Tsarist period, during which they were under the greatest German influence.
Bulgaria has by FAR the most complicated and under appreciated modern European history. A Russian sponsored Knjaz, German sponsored Tsars, A Soviet sponsored then exiled Tsar. Georgi Dimitrov too..... not forgetting almost becoming a SSR under Zhivkov and Brezhnev....
I may have a few Bulgarian awards knocking around somewhere....
