Dolf,
I did! and thanks! It's quite nicer than what I was told about Bulgarian awards. The quality on this piece is on par with the usual quality found on soviet awards. Rusty.

Hi Rusty,
A really nice piece!!! And to find a numbered one of any variant is quite a find. Indeed the quality of the Dimitrov, and the Hero Stars are on a par with the Soviet made equivalents. Ron |

Bulgarians manufactured wearer copies of some high-level awards:
- Gold Star "Hero Of The People's Republic Of Bulgaria" - Gold Star "Hero Of Socialist Labour" - Order "Dimitrov" Copies were official, made with the same equipment, used hard-baked enamel. The only difference - bronze was used instead of real gold. The quality is top-notch, identical to gold awards. There are several of these damaged copies floating around. Interesting that they all have the same damage pattern. Rumour is that these were attempted to be destroyed at the Bulgarian Mint and later picked up by a dealer. I held one specimen in my hands - it looks like someone used heavy object and hit the medal right in the middle. William |

hello Gentlemen, I recently discovered what coul be a mint mark on the avers of my dilmitrov order. It is a late variation, unumbered with two holes and no mint mark on the ring.
This mint mark consists of the two letters "OH" below the left lappel of Dimitrov. I believe having seen something similar on a good close-up picture from HulliganRs. Could you confirm this please?

G. Dimitrov Order
So I just saw one on Epay. I'm not sure what these would be worth normally but I would think it would be a lot. It's the first one I've ever seen. It's numbered 216 and looks real enough from what I can tell. I, in no way have the money to afford it. I was just curious. Does anyone have one and if they do what did you or would you pay for it.
If you do have one please post some pictures, I'm very interested. |

Re: G. Dimitrov Order
I have a Order Of Georgi Dimitrov with Document as can be seen in the first post of the "full order book" post. The order which you have seen is real. The "price guide" of 2008 states that they are worth £300-400 which is $500-600 but there's no chance of you getting one for that much. Many of the orders were melted down for their metal content as they are made of gold. The entire group that comes with the Order Of Georgi Dimitrov which is an additional six orders cost me only 3 figures in £ but the price of gold has continued to rise since. I would say if you want an unnumbered OGD you want to be looking at paying $950-$1200 and for numbered ones keep going. These orders are really only worth their metal value though and it wouldn't be advisable paying much over that for them. If they had more intrinsic value they wouldn't be melted down but as it is they still do.

Re: G. Dimitrov Order
It's a shame not everyone can appreciate the historical value of these awards. Not much we can do about it except horde our collections.
