Time Periods for Enlisted Cap Chin Straps?
Hey all-
Here's a quick topic that I was seeking more information about. There are a few different varieties for enlisted men's cap chinstraps and I was wondering approximately when each style was used. I have noticed 3 types of black ones. In other words, early caps had the oilcloth straps that often had rougher edges when some of the fibers sort of came out (older style not pictured). Then, at some point they started using the plastic-type ones (still oilcloth?) that have visible textures in them (bottom in pic). Finally, they used the smooth plastic ones that were just molded without texture on both sides (top in pic). I wondering what uniform periods are appropriate with the various types. I realize that many older caps probably got "upgraded" with replacement straps, but if I have, for example, a mid-60s cap, what types would have been appropriate for use in this, and other eras? Thanks for the advice! -Matt |

No one? I know it's a dull topic, but doesn't it warrant some sort of discussion?;)

MadZombie,
As far as I know, the "full circle" ones are the earliest, the "pear-shaped" ones the later. Marc |

You mean where they attach to the buttons? I guess I never noticed the difference. Thanks.
