I can't explain the custom "gold"-plating - a veteran's attempt to correct a perceived slight or just looked prettier(?). Awarded 2.6.45 by 79 Rifle Corps that captured the Reichstag.

"He has displayed outstanding courage and command experience, participating in all fighting from Warsaw to Berlin. He always quickly and succinctly organized and supported wire communications from the regimental commander’s observation position, risking his life to ensure normal operations in his sector.

'In fighting 10-11.3.45 on the approach to Kolberg he heroically repelled a Hitlerite attack on the regimental commander’s observation position, furthermore personally killing five Hitlerites. On 17.4.45 while penetrating the enemy defense beyond the Oder he was wounded, not abandoning his post. He is deserving of the Order of the Patriotic War II Class."

Recipient was signals platoon leader Starshina Velichko, an ethnic Ukrainian from the Georgian SSR. He served in the 207 RD, 597 RR.
