Where do the fakes come from?
I'm wondering were most of the fake Soviet medals & orders come from? Do they mostly come from Russia, from the ex-republics of the Soviet Union, from Europe or from the United States?
My guess would be that they are mostly made in Russia, but I'm I right?

I've heard that a lot of Soviet fakes are coming out of the Baltic states, esp. Latvia and Lithuania.

Ukraine is also sometimes shown as a fake producer.
BTW, I'm really surprised China has not yet massively entered in this business. They produce copies of TR awards that are not so bad... Cheers. Ch. |

I am always curious as to who produces the really good fakes. Some of these guys are really, really good jewelers - I only wish I had some of the skills that these guys have - I could do very well in the jewelry business!
![]() There's one site from Russia that sells really good fakes as really good fakes, but even though I've tried to buy from them, I have never been able to. Perhaps it's a fake site??? ![]() I'd like to find someone who could make a good fake Nevsky to replace one lost by a legit veteran who is still living and would like to wear one that looks like the one he was awarded. If I could only find one of the fakers, I'd pay them well to produce one, but no luck yet... Dave |

I've heard of one guy in Russia who came into jewelry business from more traditional profession.
At some point he made several copies of high-end awards. Supposedly he got into real trouble when some of his pieces were used to replace real awards in a museum in Russia. I have few samples of his work - it's really high-quality job! He used silver, gold-plating and hot-baked enamels. As result we have speciments that look almost identical to real pieces. William |

William,
That's an interesting story... It reminds me the scenario of "Charade", the movie with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant... What were these high-end awards ? Can you post pics ? Cheers. Ch. |
