Border guard parade visor
Hi guy's ,
This is one question that sudenly struck me. Why the heck did border guard fallow new regulations , but didnt get the a new cap to go with the parade uniform ? Let's say they got the new green uniform and did get the new bleuish parade uniform why did they have to wear there normal cap with it? it nust have looked out of place. is there any real reason behind this ? i'm just wondering? kind regards ser-g |

Apparently, the distinctive green-top black-bands of the Border Guard were a tradition that extended back into the Tsarist Era and into the time of the modern Russian Federation. There are even pictures of them wearing their caps in combat duty, when they probably should have been wearing helmets or pilotka.
I'm fairly certain that the only difference between Officer service caps and Officer Parade caps were the larger "wreathed" cap badge that parade caps had. Both had gold cords, and were identical in color and form (in fact, you could easily switch the caps out just by changing the badges). Enlisted men, as in the Army, had only one cap--however, there don't seem to be a lot of pictures of Border Guards wearing pilotka (I have seen some green-lined Pilotka, however) like the rest of the army. Again, tradition seemed to dictate they wore the caps. So, it seems entirely possible that you'd see an enlisted man in the Border Guards wearing the same cap whether he was in camoflage, everyday dress, or ceremonial/graduation dress. I actually have a picture of Border Guard cadets wearing black-banded green-topped caps (probably around 1980-1990 or so). I'll upload it once I figure out how to properly reduce the size. On an additional note, I think the Border Guards had their own small honor guard unit at some point (distinguished probably just by green-topped caps with honor guard badges on the crowns), but I've only seen the picture once, on the cover of a book.
