This is a Gratitude Certificate, I use a translator but not connect correctly the words in my languaje, the only thing that I can understad was: Gdynia (Poland) in german was Gotenhafen. It the 3rd most important port/harbour in Poland, 30 Km near Gdansk.

Re: Translation Help
The 1943 document confirms his service in the 69th Independent Local Rifle Battalion and the second document confirms his position as a Party organizer in this battalion.

Re: Translation Help
Here is the Georgian letter "Las" (L) in a rather strange font from a Stalin period diploma.
Looks more like childish graffiti than a ლ to me.

Re: Translation Help
Gentlemen,
I have attempted to translate this citation for some items i have, but as expected i'm strugling! What does "Аэ" stand for in the first line? Also, what does "GIASKP" mean? Is this roughly what the citation says? "Guards junior sergeant Vertebny, Yuri Pavlovich serves as motor mechanic of aviation for the third (Aviation Division?) , He has participated in the Patriotic War since August 1942, in the southern part of Stalingrad, 4th, 1st and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts. He took part in the heroic defense of Stalingrad. Comrade Vertebny during his time in 117 (giaskp?) from April 1944 together with the mechanic served 130 aircraft sorties, of which 20 flights were handled on his own in the absence of a mechanic. Along with excellent work on the material, Comrade Vertebny also partakes in guard duty for the vigilant protection of the material in the territory of foreign countries and had the 4th of gratitude???? from the Command of the squadron and regiment. Born in 1925, a nonpartisan?, Ukrainian, drafted into the Red Army Stalingrad RVC. Home address: - no previous awards" |

Re: Translation Help
"non-partisan" means not in "a" political party.
"гвардейский истребительный авиационный Станиславский ордена Кутузова полк" is Guards Fighter Aviation Stanislav Order Kutuzov Regiment.

Re: Translation Help
While translating memoires of one officer, I have encountered a few problematic terms. Ferst of tchem is "GSM".
This has something to do with vehicles - would guess that it may mean fuel or something like that? There is e.g.an expression, that the vehicles were treated with 'dvoinoi zapravkoi GSM'. What does this shortcut stand for? |
