prices...

My point on the extremely high prices was simply how high they could and do get; I have sold multiple WWII uniforms for over $4k, so its not that rare to find.I was not trying to scare anyone away from WWII uniforms ( I'd be out of business!) but to show that Soviet cloth runs the gamut; a "generals uniform" can mean $150 or $6000.

As for the Signals Marshal price, well, thats just because Shawn gets his uniforms from a great source ; )

Also I disagree about getting a complete generals uniform, even M1943 service, for $500. They are for sale but they are almost all not WWII, rather they are late 1940's. Perhaps a M1943 generals tunic for this price, but probably not a real set.

I don't know of any collector who just starts big; start perhaps with 1950's uniforms; interesting era, good quality, and low price. Later move into WWII perhaps. You never know what will strike your fancy; my best client started out by calling me and saying he just wanted one 1980's general and that would be it; 6 years later he has just gotten his 14th WWII Marshal from me. Its addictive!

Another twist is to keep looking out for bargains. I have picked several WWII uniform items for bargain prices, both on Ebay and at military fairs. There are dealers out there who do not deal in Soviet uniforms and either bump their prices right up or sell them at very low prices beacuse they simply do not know what they have. Many specialise in other fields and just want to get rid of items they buy in lots.
Granted that these occurances are a bit on the rare side but nevertheless are not unheard of. I bought a M1945 prade uniform on Ebay for £100 which is quite a good price I think as well as various caps etc.

Nuke monkey,

There is no perfect way to tell the hats. Once upon a time all the modern hats had blank label (sweat shields) in them with no date or information on them. Back then you could be sure that if your hat say 88 it was made in 1988.

Of course now they have been adding fake dates too.

The best bet is to look for hats with signs of wear.
