Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Was that song written by the Sherman Brothers?

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

I was also watching a program the other day about the Arctic Convoys and the Veteran also mentioned he was grateful to the Russians for saving his life when his ship was torpedoed and for giving them a medal every 10 years, while the British Government doesnt aknowledge them in any way (this was prior to the Arctic Star), are these the common 50 and 60 year anniversary medals? Did any of the Arctic Convoy men receive any of the other Jubilee medals ie 20 & 30 years of victory, or did they just start from 1985 onwards?

Many thanks again!

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Only the 40th and later was awarded to "Westerners" with the 40th being officially recognised for wear.

Here's a fake Medal "In Memory Of The 250th Anniversary Of Leningrad". Not quite the most coveted and obscure of Soviet Medals.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

As fake as a Bank Of Wales £7 note.
It even has a seam along the edge from casting.
Having it in hand it does sound as though there may be a fairly considerable (considering size) hollow in it.

Fair enough! Looking at the images on my phone, it just look beat up but in hand is always a different story :)

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Don't worry, it certainly does look sorry.
It really is crude, which is fortunate.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Anyone seen a "silver" XXX medal?

I think the miscolouring of the ribbon is because it is glued on.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals

Welcome! I agree, the medal is made of brass, not silver, unless it was re-plated or rewashed. Regardless, I think the ribbon is also incorrect.

I am not sure if the ribbon is just damaged; I tried to lift it a little but it seemed to be clued on and the little part I got up had a rust coloured surface at the buttom of the ribbon - so I think the ribbon might have got miscoloured by the glue making some sort of chemical thingy - but could also just be a plain wrong one.

What puzzles me is the colour of the medal... I have two others, but both brass - this is the only "silver" I have seen. Seems fishy.
