I don't have a green book (1974)at hand, but I am sure (almost 100%) that the service caps for generals had no embriodery at all at that time.

Hi folks,

I just got the cap in,
it seems worn a bit the diamond has worn a slight bit.
the cord indeed seems a hole bit more bright yellow (really noticeble).
the cocard indeed is a nice example of a 2 piece general type.
the buttons are standard buttons and not the general SU gerb.
Overal it is a really nice cap with general grade materials and silk lining.

what could explain the normal butóns on the cap?

I thinkthat either the buttons were replaced or it is for honour guards, not a general's cap. If the crown is very steep (it seems to be) the second option seems to be correct.

cap

I think it was an unissued generals cap that was 'finished' with whatever they had; a generals cap badge, but officers buttons and cap cords.

what is your deffinision on a steep frond ?

the cord is fare more yellow in collor than normal officer.
i always thot that was a sign of a generals cord?
the buttons are stitched on and are of corred date 1978.

was it usual to have the buttons stitched on ? instead of the metal pins?

Steep front - take a look at the second ppic of a cap I posted here: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...or-cap-eb.html
That's what I mean steep - almost vertical.

The cords are a difficult matter. Regulations say nothing about that, but could be. On the other hands - cords are easy to replace.

The buttons may be original to it (altough it isn't something I would expect on such a cap), but can be replacement. Maybe the original ones were removed to be sold separately or to be used on shoulderboards... Who knows?
