re: Gold-plated medals..Old question - no answers?
It is a shame that we have no sources to tell us one way or the other. Everything we hear is based on mere assertion?

re: Gold-plated medals..Old question - no answers?
Guys,
I have one of these in my collection, and I tend to believe that this is a genuine variation given its manufacturing characteristics. Also, I'd like to remind you that one ex-dealer, herewith well respected on these pages, also held the same belief (and sold at least one of them). Marc |

re: Gold-plated medals..Old question - no answers?
The facts here are - these medals are mint made and were gold-plated before enamelling. I haven't been able to find any information from the mint that they were officially produced, but I have seen a photo of a veteran wearing this gold variation. I tend to believe that they are real, but the concrete proof is yet to be found.

re: Gold-plated medals..Old question - no answers?
Well i have a little info now, I don't know about factory made ones or gilded yet. But I was talking with a person who use to serve in SU Air Forces. He told me that it was common in his regiment to cover those with dioxide of titanium, In nearly based aviation factory. Kind of a custom for retiring.

You can definitely tell the difference between the ones an individual decides to turn gold (paint?) and the ones from a factory. At least you got the document out of the deal and still have an "unusual" medal for your collection.:)

Ph3s,
The name is :thumbsup:thumbsup Would you mind posting some detailed scans of the medal. From what I can see, it was apparently gulded after the enamel was applied. Alexei |
