cit Russian Soldier carrying medals
Hello. I have got a set of 4 medals and the picture of the soldier who presumably worn them. Could somebody help me with translation?
Thanks sergio Last edited by CtahhR; 03-05-2012 at 12:49 AM. |

Re: Russian Soldier carrying medals
It all lines up - the Sergeant in 1946 is a Captain by 58. All the medals line up with the paperwork apart from the paperwork doesn't list one of the "For Combat Merits" medals. Nice consecutive Red Stars too.

Re: Russian Soldier carrying medals
The medals I've got are the Glory3, CS no-num, Koenigsberg and XXX anniversary army&fleet. No red stars, unfortunately, and no bravery medal!
cheers sergio |

The attached award citation is dated 1945 long after the abolition of unit commissars required for countersigning orders, including awards. This is the unusual example of a major as the regimental commander, with a senior-ranking lieutenant colonel as his positionally subordinate chief of staff.
Here's the photo. This is the only time I can remember seeing such an occurrence. Last edited by CtahhR; 12-30-2013 at 03:57 PM. |

Re: Unusual Chain of Command
Here's a very similar case - also a Major commanding and a LtCol as chief of staff. From Order of the 64th Guards Tank Brigade nr. 04/N, dated Feb 8, 1944.

I was on "the site" today (you can blame Bill for causing the relapse) and came across this set of awards for a special operation in 1943.
Included with the "usuals" are an Order "Badge Of Honour", Medal "Partisan Of The Patriotic War" 1st Class and a 11 year old getting a Medal "For Bravery". I know there were some teenage Heroes Of The Soviet Union but 11 is the youngest I've seen so far. Anyone got any certificated younger recipients they know of?
