It cant be T3 because the mint mark is stamped not raised, right?

Also, I think T3 OGPWs dont have the rivets next to the screwpost, which yours has.

T2V5 perhaps?

Correct it isn't raised, it is stamped.

Guys, the H/S is a steel replacement from uniform's hat :)
This is a good old type 2 "flatback".

Hi,

hammer and sickle is not steel, but made from brass. And yes, it is taken from uniforms hat.

Regards,

And why would a recipient place a brass H&S on the Order? As a replacement?

So I imagine the replacement brass H&S decreases the value of the Order?

I've seen ones with replaced h&s going for MORE because of the interest factor! Like if the replacements were made by the soldiers themselves in the trenches, etc.

Lauri,

It is brass plated steel, or brass with a steel core :)

RE: rarity of this piece.

I am opening the same can of worms again, but I do not believe that all "brass" (let's call them that) H&Ss are trench shop replacements. I know that most self-respecting (no irony intended) researchers think so, but there is no proof one way or the other. For me it's an open question.

Have you ever tried to fit an OPW with a missing H&S with a brass replacement. It don't fit! The Order needs to be drilled to get out the mint rivets and to make the holes wider. I have seen dozens of those pieces, how come none of them (well, almost none) have any chips on the enamel or any other damage from the drill? They are almost always perfectly attached. I am theorising that it is at least possible that most of those replacements were installed by the mint, when it ran out of the gold H&S.

Alexei-the-skeptic :)

Alexei,

You put forward a pretty reasonable argument here.
