Badge "Georgian Society Of Friends Of The Airforce".
OK, does this make up for the Tsarist badge? It is a 1920's-era (maybe '30s) Georgian Osoaviakhim badge. It is one of my badges that I have never seen anywhere else. Have you?

Hello Alexei
Thank you for the correction. Y'know, in the back of my mind Osoaviakhim didn't seem quite right, but I never really questioned it. My mistake. May I ask if you found this badge in a reference book? If so, which one? On good days I can still find some really nice badges here in Tbilisi. I have my eye on two large collections, one of which should become available soon, the other one, probably not for a while. Lately I have bought some interesting tsarist pieces but I have withheld posting any of them here, except the aviation piece above, because this just isn't the right forum for that. On that subject, do you know of a good Imperial Russian forum? I know of the Wermacht Awards Forum but I would like to find something a little more exclusive and in-depth. You know, like this one? A couple of weeks ago I bought a private photo album from the family of a WW I artillery officer. He served on the Turkish front, including the capture/occupation of Trabzon. In addition to the great artillery-related photos, there is a photo of a very early scout-seaplane beached near Trabzon. What a surprise to find that little gem. Before I sell that album I am going to copy the photo for my collection. Thanks again, and good hunting. Chuck In Oregon Currently, Chuck In Tbilisi ... for 79 more days! |

Chuck,
I've seen this badge once in a private collection, but I could not find it in any reference. The "Friends of Airfleet" societies were created in several republics in the early 1920s (1921 or 22, I think), and a bunch of those membership badges had similar design. I don't know about an Imperial forum. Hope you find more goodies in the remaining 79 days! Alexei |
