Why they didn´t just give the original version with enameled suspension?
Almost all mongolian medals I have seen on foreigners have them... Esteban

Marc,
I know there is one type of Doc dating from 1946, so that could be the type used for the Doc on the 2nd pic, as I believe that one was awarded on 1947. As for the one on the 1st pic, the closest type of Doc is 1982. There is also a type of Doc from 1986, but that would be after this particular Doc was given, the date on yours being 1985. Anyway, this is just a guess according to my very limited knowledge on the subject. So let's wait for Jan, our expert. :idea Thanks Jan. Dolf PS: Btw Jan, email received, will reply later ;) |

Hi guys,
I'm afraid I cannot really answer your questions. The doc on the right is of course the original one. Already around serial number 20000 the award date changes to 1947. Now for the doc on the left, I can only guess these are some sort of catch-up awards for the 40th anniversary of the Victory over Japan. At first I thought these were duplicate award(doc)s, but now that I've seen several, all from the 1985-86 period, never one from before or after that, I guess the "anniversary catch-up" theory is more likely. I will try to find out more Jan PS: I have a similar doc for the Khalkhin Gol medal, awarded in 1989, being the 50th anniv of the battle. Will post a pic later. |
