Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards.

I strongly believe that beginning in the autumn of 1944, former Royal Bulgarian troops - under Communist leadership, fought alongside the Red Army against Germany.

I would think that this photo was taken shortly after that...

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards.

The Imperial 3rd Bulgarian Army advanced side by side with the Red Army all the way to Berlin losing c25,000 KIA. As for when the Tsar's army was renamed the "Bulgarian People's Army" is not too clear but it could have been as early as 10th September 1944. The imperial insignia etc was only removed in September 1946 although it has now returned.

Bulgaria had a rather muddy transition from an Imperial Axis power to Imperial Soviet power to a People's Republic and integral member of the Warsaw Pact. With yet another muddy transition from Warsaw Pact People's Republic to NATO member in the European Union in more recent times. Next stop Eurozone.

There are Soviet award citations out there with the Imperial Bulgarian coat of arms stamped on them.

Re: Interesting photograph - what era?

Well, than that makes me even more confused. OK, maybe they just have the shoulderboards attached poorly (apart from the general - but removable boards were worn on furcoats during all the post-43 era), but I can't think of any reason why they would be on the Kraków's Central Square.

A HSU in unusual shirt (sniper?)

An interesting photograph of a HSU in unusual gimnasterka (Looks like an M36 converted to M43 but with pockets removed?).
Unfortunately, I don't know who the guy was - the writing on the back helps only in by telling us his name was Vladimir and the picture was taken in 1947.
I guess he could have been a sniper, as he is wearing a "Voroshilov Marksman" badge.

Branch of service/uniformed service ID?

At first I thought the man was an army lt., but his shirt has visible buttons, he has a somewhat non-regulation haircut and I am unable to identify the service emblems. This lead me to a conclusion that he is probably of non-NKO uniformed service. Which one can it be?
The emblems look like "A" with wings or thunder. Only thing that comes to my mind is the ministry of Automobile transport, who had a winged "A" as an emblem, but this pic was, according to the writing on the back, taken in 1941, so I doubt the NK responsible for transport service had similar emblem.

Another uniformed service to identify - militia?

And another uniformed guy to identify. His cap badge and visible shirt buttons scream: "Non-military!", but I can't quite identify the service. I thought of militia, but I believe their emblem was a bit smaller.
I know this pic is unclear and in a bad condition, but any guesses?

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards.

A nice apparently pre-43 pic of a Navy officer - Sr. Lieutenant? with Lenin, RB and RS orders.

Re: Branch of service/uniformed service ID?

#1 is Logistics/Administration M36. (This bit of insignia is what I was once confused by and the identification of it was my first answered question on the forum!)
#2 may not be "Soviet", could it be an individual republic?
