Muhin, Ivan Semenovich, Private, Mortarist, 700th Rifle Regiment

I just received what is now my favorite orders group. It is to Private Muhkin.

The ORS is a catch-up award, presented in 1968, for multiple heavy wounds.

Re: Mixed Military and Civil Orders Group- OOR and ORS

I love most is the 1980's photograph with him wearing these very awards. I am shocked to see a lack of any other Labor awards. If it were not for this photo, I would assume that there were missing orders/books.

The Red Star isn't a "Catch up" but a wounds award. Catch ups were awarded earlier (during the war for example) and didn't find their way to the recipient until much later. This was awarded years after the event but will have been presented very close to the date of awarding.

What do you think took the government so long to award the ORS, even if for the wounds? Do you think that he applied for it, providing the argument he was deserving due to the severity of his sacrifice to the Soviet Union? Or, was the criteria for the ORS opened to cover being wounded in action?

Also, since the location of where he worked is known, is it possible to (fingers crossed) to find research? Auke said he would check for me, but what is your experience? Also, have you ever seen a citation for an OOR? I cannot imagine it being relegated to only a decree, due to the elevated nature of the award.

Re: Muhin, Ivan Semenovich, Private, Mortarist, 700th Rifle Regiment

It took so long because guidelines and regulations kept changing ever so slightly. Also often a veteran, veteran organisation or local authority had to initiate the awarding.

I have seen citations for October Revolutions. Nothing "Hollywood" though.

If you need research - I now provide a research service. You won't find cheaper. I've researched a few hundred pieces alone this year and the success rate with wartime awards is over 95% but it is lower with "commemorative" awards (Not been able to find the citations for any of my 50th anniversary of the October Revolution Red Stars and Combat Merits). Even got NKGB and MVD results back!
