Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
Nice picture showing early post-war low-ranking railway personnel. What they are wearing can hardly be called uniforms - regulation and non-regulation caps and mix of civilian and military clothing.

Cool Hand Luke
Gents,
We've all seen a lot of interesting photographs over the years. How often, however, have we seen sunglasses in wear? Sergeant Major I. D. Vasys is styling and profiling. Vasys would also earn an ORS. Regards, slava1stclass Last edited by slava1stclass; 09-05-2015 at 04:32 PM. |

A couple of jaunty fellows festooned with Orders of the Red Star, Guards Badges, and another unidentifiable medal, perhaps Combat Service or a campaign medal.

"To Danil Nikitich, Aleksandra Ermolaevna, and Anichka from your son’s friend, Shalaev Vasiliy Fedorovich, during the days of the Patriotic War
This photo is the impetus of our friendship. [signed] VF Shalaev 20/IX/44" Vasiliy Fedorovich Shalaev's (born 1916?) early Bravery Medal was located in the archive; my thanks to RedMaestro2 for pointing this out for me. Could it be the same man? According to the archive documents, he was, "awarded a Bravery Medal in 1943 as a Sergeant of State Security in the Black Sea group of forces, (and) ended the war as a Sr. Lieutenant." His entry in the archive also lists an Order of the Red Star for which there is no link to any documents. |

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
It is a possibility if Vasilij is the chap with the Medal. It is quite a common name - 8 listed on the Memorial site alone and "the site" won't list everyone in uniform.
If it were a less common name though, I'd say you had him bang to rights. A nice clear image of two serving mates, although I don't quite think the hands in lap is for me. These sort of "close" images usually find their way onto ebay with some really fantastic stories of forbidden love etc. It takes all kinds....

Double Partisan Winner
Gents,
An exceptional photograph in that it represents the first instance I've ever encountered of a double Partisan Medal winner i.e., a winner of both its first and second class. Regards, slava1stclass |

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
Probably needed the extra award for losing their head and identity. A small favour I think.

Four Otlichniks
Gents,
An interesting photograph of an unidentified border guard sergeant with four different Otlichnik badges - Border Guard, Machine Gunner, Rifleman and Recon Scout. Regards, slava1stclass |
