Salut Olivier,

This seems to be the Romanian Order of Labor. Not 100% sure but it looks like the 3rd Class of the Order.

Here's my Romanian Socialist Republic Order of Labor, 3rd Class. It came cased minus the ribbon bar.

Here's my RSR 3rd Class (I know I posted the RPR 3rd somewhere in all of this:confused:). Anyway, it's the whole shebang- doc, holder, box and ribbon with the order. Awarded in '66. Enjoy.

You know, after seeing the Romanian film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days one is hard pressed to imagine that such bright and beautiful creations could have come out of communist Romania.:rolleyes: Their work is not subtle, yet far from garish to my eye.:thumbsup

This award, though not at all rare, is, in my opinion, the most beautiful of all the Romanian decorations. It is, at it's most beautiful, again in my opinion, in the 2nd Class of this award- which I don't have (yet). This is another award which seems to echo the Carpathian culture- I really don't know how to explain why I think this but there is both beauty and foreboding embodied in the design.

And, I really have to see that movie...

Have been working trying to sort these out (maybe for a JOMSA article). Here is my basic working typology (for comment and information):

Type 1 RPR were serial numbered 1947-49

Type 2 RPR were no longer numbered and they had a simple closure device (hooked pin on the reverse), 1950-59

Type 3 RPR had the full close device on the reverse with a jewler-quality catch that encloses the pin, 1960-65.

Type 4 was the RSR variation, 1966-89.

THe 1st class was silver-gilt, 2nd class silver, and 3rd class bronze.

When I get around to it, I'll be posting more examples.
