More popular fantasy fakes?

Since I didn't see a section in "Fake Alert" under medals for table medals, and I really think the fakes in tables medals tend to stick to the thing at least most people still understand whether they know or care about history or not - KGB - these always make me wonder with a lot of doubt in my mind before I even start to look closely.

I've seen many fakes and fantasy KGB table/desk medals, but since I'm not aware of any KGB desk medal resource - especially when it came to republican versions, I have to rely on quality of design, whether I've seen it before as a known authentic item and you guys and your keen eyes.

So here are a pair of alleged KGB desk medals. The first I've never seen before. The second I've seen before from this same seller and I don't think it has ever moved for him. I have more doubts about the second than the first, but that does not make either of them good.

Thoughts?

Phillip

And the one I've seen before (supposedly Georgia Republican KGB):

Yes, #2 is Armenian, not Georgian.

Re: More popular fantasy fakes?

Thanks gents. My concern about the first one can be argued both ways. On the one hand, yes, there was a military counterintelligence and yes, for at least a while it was part of the overall security organization (NKVD/Smersh), I don't think they ever shared the KGB's shield, sword, star and H&S symbol, so I don't think I'm going to bite on that one. By the time the KGB was formed and adopted that symbol, the GRU already had its "owl."

On the other hand, there was a special department in the KGB that dealt with military intelligence that they might come across while looking at other things and were supposed to share with the GRU. Though after the whole nuclear secrets and the resulting Soviet spy scandal in the US, it can be seriously argued that the MGB/KGB had always been in the business of gathering military intelligence.

Man, I wish there was a good reference on just KGB table medals (I've seen an extensive, though not complete, version for MVD table medals, but that's it).:(

As for the Armenian militia medal, well, even if it's real I'm not sure I need it.
