Advice on Cleaning a Visor Cap?

Hello All-

Haven't posted a while. Hope everyone's well. I have a new question for the experts.

I just got a beautiful 1974 Army General's "walking-out" cap with extended embroidery. It is in nice shape overall.

It is a bit dirty on top (just discoloration, not really small stains) and I was wondering if it is possible to clean it without damaging the color or fabric. I don't want to trust the dry cleaners with it! I welcome all advice.

Thanks!

I use mild soap and water on a sponge to gently rub off spots from visor caps. It usually works quite well. Then allow the cap to dry :) Don't leave it to dry cleaners.

Benzene does the job without damaging the fabric.

Marc
"Benzene" as in the Russian word for gasoline?

By the way, that tip was given to me by the curator of a local uniform museum...
