On August 7, 1943, during the capture of height 235.9, he was located at the forward observation post, conducting observations under enemy rifle, machine-gun, artillery, and mortar fire. He discovered 2 machine guns and 1 observation post, which enabled their timely suppression by our artillery. Serving as an orderly, he quickly and accurately carried out personal orders from the divisional commander, passing on his orders to the attacking units under heavy artillery and mortar fire. He deserves the Medal for Courage. Feldman served in the 164th Rifle Division, 33rd Army, Western Front. But the time period falls right into the middle of the Battle of Smolensk ,in which the 33rd Army took part.
