General University Graduate Badges.
#11
I know this part of the thread is going to get moved to documents after this, but :D since we're breaking out the diplomas here are a couple of Marxism-Leninism University diplomas first from 1948 and then from 1950. After that, there is a 1952 Technical University Diploma that I only just noticed has the 16 Republic banners on the outside (and in) seal! :idea I've had it for over a year and just noticed that.:laff

This one is curious to me because of the what is printed on the cover. It is a bit confusing to me.

This is the one from 1950. The optical illusion that the letters are raised is from the scanner. They are in fact, very pressed into the cover.

And of course, I have all the associated grad badges which I will be happy to show if we ever get back to the discussion about the badges...;-)

Well not literally, but I've had this Moscow State University badge since 1993 and never really looked at carefully until I got my third pre-WWII university badge with only 10 ribbons on the seal. Two of the things the old solid silver badges have in common are the 3 rivets on the reverse and the Moscow Mint screw nut. This badge had these as well, so I started to look more closely at it and then finally started counting the ribbons on the seal. Sure enough, it's 16. The only reason I know it is from MSU is because it belonged to the father of a friend I have in Moscow. The man had died a few years before I met his family at a birthday party for me and his widow gave me this badge because she heard I was starting to collect such things. I started to decline such a personal gift, but my friend stopped me - and if you how Russians are about gift giving, then you know why I couldn't refuse.;)

This sort of thing has happened twice today. See: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...rests.html

First, a pre-war one for comparison and after the reverse of both.

Looks nice Phillip! I always wanted to get into those school diamonds, just never got the chance.
Forgive me but to what era is the 15 ribbons from?

Here is a nice 11 ribbon example dating from 1st September 1945 (Ukaz establishing Graduation Badges) to 26th June 1946 (Ukaz changing the State Emblem) although they will have no doubt been issued until stocks ran out.

The fact that this is a Post-Great Patriotic War Badge will explain why they are never seen in Combat or at the Victory parades.

Weight: 14.9 Grams
Screwplate 2.7 grams
