Here is one of my favorite DDR medals. It is a service medal for the Volkspolizei. However, this is one of the earlier types that do not show the DDR coat of arms on the front of the medal. I've been searching for quite some time for one of these, and am very happy to have found one.

Nice one Roy. I have the True Service medal for Ministry of Internal Affairs. It´s very similar to yours.

Nice find. Yes that's the 1955-58 version of the Faithfull sevice in the German Peoples Police (Volkspolizei, VOPO ) Just out of interest,there is a 3rd Class (stufe) with III under the middle shield ( 5 Years) also there is a 2nd Class (stufe) of this award with the Roman II (10 years) but a 1st class medal was never produced. Fakes do appear from time to time with the first and third digit of the roman numerals filed off from the third class award. The smaller 1959-70 version faithfull service medals are also without the central GDR emblem in the shield. From 1971 - 90 they had the GDR emblem. Regards Eddie

Hi gentlemen, this medals VP " für treue dienste " without the roman number are fakes or 1971-90 types.

Your medals are for Interior Ministry Service. They´re pretty common so I doubt they´re fakes.

They look fine to me, I am not aware that these last types (1971-90) are being faked they are, as Esteban said very common and are often offered as a complete set of the three classes.

The Medal For Loyal Service In The Armed Institutions Of The Ministry Of Interior (Medaille Für Treue Dienste In Den Bewaffneten Organen Des Ministeriums Des Innern) was created in 1957 to replace the Medal For Loyal Service In The German People's Police. The Medal came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes (or Gold, Silver and Bronze) for 15, 10 and 5 years.
This example is an early variation of the 1971 Type in Gold.
