Military Exploit Order.
#1
Here's the Military Exploit Order 3rd class. The order was established in 1947. (The number of stars on the ribbon indicates class: 3 stars for 1st class, 2 stars for 2nd class, and 1 star for 3rd class.)

The order is nice looking from a distance, but is made really cheaply: stamped out of a thin sheet of metal, seemingly aluminum, and then painted. (note the paint flaking off the centre medallion).

Interesting point. I imagine the "cheapness" of the North Vietnamese awards stems from the fact that they had higher priority things to do with their limited supply of precious metals as well as their steel, brass and bronze: use these to buy or manufacture weapons. Just speculation on my part though.

Hello all - I have revived this thread to ask what how a person would earn this medal. I am even asking how foreigners received this award? Thanks.

Established in May 1947, the medal is awarded in three classes to both units and individuals for outstanding performance in combat. That may be pretty vague, but many awards are that way. I assume that allies got the medal under the same (flexible) conditions that Vietnamese earned it.

Military Exploit Order /Huân chương quân công

1st class

Established 15 May 1947 in three classes. According to the 2003 Law on Emulation and Commendation (No. 15/2003/QH11), Chapter 3, Article 39: http://moj.gov.vn/vbpq/en/Lists/Vn%20bn%...temID=8263

Article 39.-

1. The first-class "Military Exploit Order" shall be conferred or posthumously conferred on individuals who have recorded outstanding and brave exploits in combat, combat service, training, force building, consolidation of the all-people defense and people's security, or have sacrificed their lives heroically, setting bright examples in the whole country.

2. The first-class "Military Exploit Order" shall be conferred on collectives which satisfy the following criteria:

a/ Having recorded outstanding achievements for five or more consecutive years before the time of nomination; having maintained internal unity, with clean and strong Party and mass organizations;

b/ Having a process of combat, combat service, training, building and growth of 30 years or more; if having been conferred the second-class "Military Exploit Order," they must have a process of combat, combat service, training, building and growth of 25 years or more.

Socialist Republic of Vietnam – Military Exploit Order

Hi All,

I am adding SRV pages to my website, and I had some questions from the SRV collectors out there :

1. Does anyone have any other variations?

2. The 1959 US Army publication shows without wreath. Anyone ever seen other evidence of this for an early type ? (that is not just one with a removed/lost wreath)

3. Does anyone have any more pictures of the early DRV type ?

4. Does anyone have additional references for this order ?

The draft page is here: http://www.indochinamedals.com/srv/o-04_...order.html
