This badge isn't Academy (should be white) but High Naval College.
Another one is Nakchimov Naval College badge.

I'm sorry.
I was being loose with the terminology. In the late 1980's, just as Soviet material was starting to filter out of the Soviet Union, a few of us who began searching for it and collecting it referred to ALL diamond-shaped school badges as "academy badges". Old habits die hard ! :D

A nice set of pictures of the same officer (unfortunately unknown) taken in different times... Nice to see how the uniform changes...

Some time ago I asked a question about this guy - was he in the NKVD?
Well, after purchesing his later photographs, I have no doubt that he was state security related...

He's wearing a 50 or 60 years jubilee KGB badge...

Are you sure it is same guy on both pics in post #3? The awards on left photo does not match at all with ribbon bar worn in right photo.
Yes, it is very telling (and sometimes frightening) to see these progressions.
Here is one example (whose group lives with me). Clearly, being shot through both cheeks, taking out most of his teeth and a good bit of his lower jaw had an role in his aging.

And . . . another one . . . to see how a youngster's "thousand-meter stare" (he was in it from the first invasions to the last dance in Berlin) can take a toll. (And also eat your hair.)
