They do. There are "collector clubs" where advise can be given. There are also many experts out there.
If you are in the market for high awards, likely you won't find them at a flea market anymore.

My question, which I have refered to in other posts, is what will the "unofficial medals" do to the Soviet collecting market? How about this new law that is in place (to our knowledge, though I have not seen anything official).

Unofficial medals? Umalatova and co.? The effect on seroious collectors - ZERO. on new guys - frastration in the case they will buy the "unofficial medals" as authentic Soviet medals.

I too am curious about the "boom" in prices. At some point, it does have to stop... Somewhere. I think back to, say, a Suvorov 3rd... Two years ago, they were readily available at $800 each. Now, they're what... $4000? $4500? $5000? Their prices are about like gas prices... By the time you finish sending an e-mail to the dealer telling him you're interested, the price has gone up another $200! So, if they've gone up 500% in the past two years, will they contine to climb? Two years from now, will they be valued at $25000??? Seriously, when will the prices slow down? At some point, not everyone will be able to afford the awards, and most of the buying will be left up to the oil oligarchs (at least the ones that Putin hasn't arrested...) For a lot of collectors (including myself) the prices have forced me out of the Soviet market and back to collecting other awards and cloth items. I find it interesting that I was recently offered one of the most breathtaking (and huge) WW2 US general's fully documented award groups that I've ever seen outside of a museum, and the prices of it was LESS than that of a common Gold Star and Lenin HSU combo. I don't think there's much doubt in which one that I'll invest my funds into...

Some of those prices are really low!
I would think a few might be fakes.
ORB#4-$1,904 - Way lower than going rate
Ushakov medal-$571.00 - I haven't seen this price in years
Order of Kutuzov 3rd-$3,236 - almost going rate
Nakhimov medal-$666 - a bit cheap but OK.

Why do feel some might be fakes? Why would someone bid $1904 for #4 ORB if it is a fake? When you can buy one for $50.
Unless you feel there was not many bidders as many thought they were fakes so less bids?

And what about a Nevsky (a T3 I suppose) for only $533 or $571?... Way too cheap for current market prices! Even with the 20% more.
Would love to see those pieces, so if you can PM me the link Alanirvine, that would be much appreciated.
I don't get it!
A ORB #4 for $50?!... I'm sure not even in the old golden days!
