Ron,
I don't know. If the final price is too low it makes me question the item. Order of Lenin sold for $833.00 and a much, much rarer ORB #4 for way below it's going rate??? Think about it!!! Rusty.

HuliganRS Wrote:Ron, Rusty, What I didn't say was that unless you asked for scans of the Soviet medals you couldn't see what you were bidding on. I did ask and received scans of the ORB#4 and the Kutuzov. The scan of the Kutuzov still had the screwback plate attached so I couldn't actually see the reverse. To the auction house's credit, when asked, they told me that they would gurantee authenticity as long as their "experts" agreed. One of the major dealers won a number of the items so I suspose that we will be seeing them up soon. BTW, the auction was held in England. Alan
Prices at auctions (major and otherwise) seem to be usually somewhat below retail values; it is apparently so in a variety of areas (numismatics, collectables, etc).
Talking about auctions, Jean Eiffel's Lenin International Peace Prize (gold medal and large document, both in their original boxes) was sold 10 days ago at auction in Paris for $4100 plus 20.33% commission for a total of $4933.53. Marc

Guys, I made a very slight (and almost insignificant :p ) mistake: the prices I quoted are actually in EUROS, not USD. So, in effect, the figures are: Winning Bid: 4100 Euros ($5275) Commission: 833.53 Euros ($1072) Total Cost: 4933.53 Euros ($6347) Expensive, but certainly rare!!! Marc

In todays classified ads in the local paper:
SPECIAL MEDAL FOR TJERNOBYL PARTICIPANT, VERY RARE. 50 EUR. So, for fun, I called to check what medal this is... (we all know, but...) ... and yeah right. Sold already.

Wow, I bought mine for 5 hryvnias (less than 1$ US) in Ukraine last summer.
I wish I could sell some for even 10$ US.
