Wonderful uniforms. in which museum were those shown in posts 15-20 (&22) from?
(especially like the idea they saved the nailed on hat rather than just tossed it as damaged/no interest)
just planning my next (first) visit over there

They not throw away anything. All Stalin’s belongings initially were transferred to museum in Volinskoe. After it was closed all stuff went to Lenin’s museum in Moscow, but was never on display there. Now it’s in State History Museum, but not in the main exhibit. On some occasions it’s part of temporary exhibitions here and there or on the loan to other museums. First set of pictures was taken at the Exposition hall of Central Archive during temporary exhibit dedicated to 50 anniversary of Stalin’s death. And second at the War Museum during temp exhibit dedicated to 60 anniversary of Victory over Germany.

This is how initially front’s banners for Victory parade looks like, but then it was decided they were way too small and size was substantially increased.

Gee, can you imagine a sort of "Night at the Museum" experience where all those old revolutionaries and purged generals come to life again. Great pictures.

The Military Uniforms Museum is closed to the public, but I was able to get in in 2002...very worth the fight to get in! Some amazing old Napoleonic uniforms;unable to take photos though.

Marvelous stuff! One hopes that, even though these don't bear double-headed crowned eagles, they may be preserved for future generations.
