Original Cold War Era Bulgarian M51/72 Steel Helmet – Complete with Size 58 Stamped Liner
Up for sale is an original Cold War-era Bulgarian M51/72 steel combat helmet. Based on the classic Soviet SSh-40 profile, this M51 variant was updated in 1972 with an improved multi-fingered leather liner system. This specific helmet is a fantastic, complete surplus example featuring an exceptionally clean interior and a desirable size stamp.
Condition & Features:
Shell Exterior: The steel shell retains a strong amount of its original light olive-green factory paint. It exhibits authentic field and storage wear, including numerous superficial scratches, scuffs, and minor spots of surface rust bleeding through the paint.
Edge & Hardware: The helmet features the correct raw (un-rolled) bottom edge. The external ventilation rivets and grommets are completely intact and securely set.
Interior & Liner: The interior features a complete, original multi-fingered perforated leather liner system. The leather remains in excellent, relatively clean condition, showing typical light wear while retaining its original dark brown central adjustment cord. The white felt padding is visible beneath the leather suspension fingers.
Markings: A crisp purple ink stamp reading \"58\" (indicating a size 58) inside a circle is prominently displayed on the inner edge of the leather liner.
Chinstrap: The original leather chinstrap is fully attached to the shell\'s metal D-rings. It is entirely intact and includes its adjustable metal buckle, currently shown tucked inside the dome.
