Here is an ORIGINAL Civil War document, whereas Union Troops (102nd Illinois Infantry), while stationed in Gallatin, Tennessee, bought 3 horses from 2 local Sumner Co., TN "Southern" Gentlemen. These 3 horses were bought on January 9th, 1863 and this Union "invoice" was compiled with the date of May 31st, 1863.
This document was signed by the Union Quartermaster: Captain F. (Francis) H. RUGER (Capt. & Asst. Quartermaster) of the 102nd Illinois Infantry Volunteers while this unit was assigned in Gallatin (Sumner Co.), Tennessee.
The 2 local Sumner Co. "sellers" were: T. (Thomas) C. (Carson) DOBBINS (1802-1879) and JAMES H. HOUSE Jr. (1832-1911) - I have included their personal information along with this Civil War Document. The total amount of $115 were paid for these 3 horses (Union terms: "Means of Transportation"- photo #5) !!
The size is: 13.75 by 8.5 inches and in PERFECT condition, while being 161 years old !!! NOTE: See photo # 11 to discover information about these 2 local men who sold these horses.
