Brief (Letter):
Witten, 6. März 1947.
Wetter Cousin Erich!
Dieses ist wohl mein III. Brief.
[Page 2]
Wir haben ja das furchtbarste erlebt. Man könnte ja Bücher drüber schreiben.
Grüßen an Dich u. Familie
Dein Cousin Fritz
Gruß von meine Frau u. Kinder.

Witten, March 6, 1947
Dear Cousin Erich!
This is probably my 3rd letter. I have a request. At my place there are carpenters who have the addresses of some good people and receive packages and also used clothing. So I ask you, if you have any good acquaintances, to please pass along my address. It is indeed sad to beg. But conditions here are unbearable. First the terrible war years and now the long years of further suffering. The children stand for 5-6 hours for a loaf of bread. Clothes are not to be had. It is truly unbelievable for someone who does not experience such a thing themselves. After the last air raid on March 19, 1945, we were left standing with only what we wore on our bodies. There was no help left. The warehouses were burned out. Whether guilty or innocent, we stood there in misery. We were always enemies of the Nazis.
[Page 2]
We have experienced the most terrible things. One could write books about it. I am completely overwhelmed. One only struggles for one's little bit of life. It would be better if one had perished along with it. Now dear Erich, I do not want to beg from you. I know it, but [others] will overwhelm you with beggar letters. That is not in my nature. I was probably also the last one who wrote. But please be so kind as to arrange such an acquaintance for me as well. I hear daily about this correspondence. I can also converse in writing and report my situation to people.
Now I wish you all the best.
In expectation that you will fulfill my wish, remaining with heartfelt greetings to you and family,
Your cousin Fritz
Greetings from my wife and children.
Address: Fritz Deling, Witten-Ruhr, Hindenburgstr. 14 (Emergency Housing), Germany (British Zone).
