Item Description
Here is a World War II US Army Honorable Discharge Insignia. Embroidered Ruptured Duck on Felt Wool Sew On Honorable Discharge Insignia.
The Ruptured Duck is worn for receiving an honorable discharge. This was necessary for 2 reasons; it indicated to local civilian and military police the soldier or airman was discharged from the service and therefore did not have to produce a pass. And, with the country having been on a Wartime manufacturing footing, the Ruptured Duck allowed the discharged, now veteran to wear his or her uniform until they could locate civilian clothes and clothes that would now fit after a couple to several years in service.
This insignia was never sewn to a uniform. The Insignia is almost 80 years old and in good condition.
