What a great look back into history, especially during WWII stateside.


He was a new officer in the ATC AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND,

based in Memphis for awhile, then off to Miami. Was interesting trying to decipher the lingo at the time, their planes were refered to as ships.

Back and forth to Patterson, Dayton, Ohio. And El Paso, and many more.


Commenting how expensive the prices for common things, i.e. food, etc was in Memphis, more expensive than New York City. Breakfast at .60, can you just imagine.


And as usual the military making no $$$ and trying to make ends meet to send money back home to pay bills to cover what Ration Stamps did not cover.


And the heartbreak when a daily letter was not received when he was deployed to Africa on a mission for weeks.

And he met the American film actor Bruce Cabot while on tour in Africa. Which research shows he was in Tunis, Tunisia around that time.

And then get back to the States and keep getting bumped down lower and lower to get leave to go home.


Yes, I found a "I am so mad at you letter" for no letters for days. I am not writing you, until I hear from you, and then get 3 letters in the nail. But if you can imagine the mail service back then and how terrible it is today.


And then how his arm was getting worn out saluting all the non-coms especially in El Paso where there were 16-18,000 new recruits.


Finally the post marks from Miami where the letters were inspected  before release due to the sensitive military manuveurs occuring at the time. After reading many letters, not sure he was even in Miami, but another country.

Many trips to Africa .


A great back and forth compendium from him to her and back again.
