📌 DESCRIPTION
This striking challenge coin commemorates Sergeant Audie Murphy, Medal of Honor recipient and one of the most celebrated American combat soldiers of World War II. The obverse places the Army Medal of Honor at the center of the design, accompanied by the inscriptions “Medal of Honor” and “Sergeant Audie Murphy.”
The reverse brings together imagery representing Murphy’s remarkable military story. It includes the 15th Infantry Regiment “Can Do” insignia and 3rd Infantry Division symbolism associated with his World War II service, along with Combat Infantryman Badge imagery. The 36th Infantry Division insignia reflects Murphy’s later service with the Texas National Guard.
“North Africa • Italy • France” traces the broader geographic progression represented by the coin and Murphy’s wartime service with the 3rd Infantry Division. Together, the two sides create a detailed tribute connecting the Medal of Honor recipient with his infantry heritage, unit affiliations, and military service.
