Offered is a vintage East German National People’s Army Reservist Medal in the silver grade, known in German as the:
Reservistenabzeichen der Nationalen Volksarmee – Silberstufe
This decoration was presented to members of the East German Nationale Volksarmee, or National People’s Army, upon honorable completion of active military service and transfer into the reserve.
The silver grade was generally associated with recipients who completed more than two years and up to ten years of military service. The hanging-medal version was used from the late 1960s through the end of the German Democratic Republic in 1990.
FrontThe medal features the profile of an NVA soldier wearing a steel helmet with the inscription:
RESERVIST DER NATIONALEN VOLKSARMEE
Translation:
“Reservist of the National People’s Army.”
ReverseThe reverse displays the East German state emblem surrounded by the inscription:
FÜR DEN SCHUTZ DER ARBEITER- UND BAUERN-MACHT
Translation:
“For the Protection of Workers’ and Peasants’ Power.”
Item detailsThe medal retains an attractive silver-colored finish with visible detail throughout the soldier, helmet, oak leaves, lettering, state emblem, and reverse wreath.
The suspension bar retains its black, red, gold, and dark-red finishes. Normal vintage wear may include light surface marks, minor finish wear, toning, and handling wear.
The reverse pin and catch remain present. Please inspect all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description and show the exact medal being offered.
This item is from my late father’s estate. I am not a specialist in East German medals or awards, and it is offered as shown and described to the best of my ability.
