Original pre-WW1US ARMYOfficer's M1911 Montana Peak Campaign hat.Size 7-1/4. High end Private purchase KNOX brand in a beautiful dark greenish colored dense flexible fur felt. Nice hat cord (missing the acorns) around the crown but I'm not sure what branch of service it denotes. A Knox 'Extra Quality' model with Five rows of decorative stitching around the 3 inch wide brim. Grosgrain hatband is in nice shape. This is the earliest model Army campaign hat without the later metal grommets for the leather chinstrap but rather a slit cut into the felt to allow it to pass through. Crown is about 5-3/4 inches tall. Under the leather sweatband is the paper size tag stating '7-1/4'. Inside circumference is measured at 22-1/4 inches around. The hats opening is 7-3/4 inches long by 6-1/2 inches wide. In very good condition for being over 100 years old. Some minor moth grazing on the underside of the brim. Some minor nicks and soiling. Oxidation on the brass chinstrap snaps and the reed in back. The leather sweatband is fairly dry with some cracking. But overall, a very nice example of the pre war Army hat. Shipped promptly and carefully. Questions welcome.
