Lot of 10 Vintage East German (DDR / GDR) Youth Organisation Badges – 1960s

A lot of ten vintage pin badges from the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), mostly from the youth organisations FDJ (Freie Deutsche Jugend) and the Thälmann Pioneers (“TP”). Please note that the pin on one badge (no. 10) is broken. Items included (readings are my best attempt):

1. “16 Jahre DDR” – rectangular brass-tone badge with the DDR state emblem (hammer and compass in a wreath of rye) and blue lettering, marking the 16th anniversary of the DDR (1965).
2. Thälmann Pioneers “TP” snowman badge, gold/brass tone, with torch and blue enamel.
3. Thälmann Pioneers “TP” ice skate badge, brass tone, with torch and blue enamel.
4. Thälmann Pioneers “TP” snowman badge, silver tone, with torch and blue enamel.
5. Thälmann Pioneers “TP” flag badge with open book (brown/red book), blue enamel flag and wreath.
6. Thälmann Pioneers “TP” flag badge with open book (gold/yellow book), blue enamel flag and wreath.
7. Thälmann Pioneers “TP” flag badge with open book (orange book), blue enamel flag and wreath.
8. FDJ shield badge (Freie Deutsche Jugend), blue enamel rising sun.
9. FDJ shield badge (Freie Deutsche Jugend), blue enamel rising sun, a second example.
10. FDJ “Für gutes Wissen” (“For good knowledge”) badge with flag, open book and wreath. The reverse is stamped with a number, which appears to read 99268. Heavier tarnish and some green patina, and the pin is broken/bent.

Fastening: all have pin-back fittings (safety-pin style); the two small FDJ shields have a small loop at the base. No. 10 has a broken/bent pin and cannot be worn securely as it is.

Condition: Used, with age-related wear. Tarnish and patina on several, small marks and scratches, and some dulling or minor wear to enamel and gilt. No. 10 has the most wear and a damaged pin. Please see all photos, which form part of the description. Sold as seen as one lot, no separate sales.
