TheOrder of the Rising Sun(旭日章,Kyokujitsu-shō)is a Japanese order, established in 1875 by Meiji Emperor. The Order was the first Japanese national decorationawarded by the government,created on 10 April 1875 by decree of the Council of State. The badge features rays of sunlight from the rising sun.

Originally awarded in eight classes (from 8th to 1st, in ascending order of importance). In 2003 lowest two grades were made into a separate order.

Date: late 1960s or early 1970s. Black resin case without latch attest to post-war date.

Box: Black resin with inside lined with purple silk, without metal latch. Inscribed in goldletters: Merit 8thClass White Paulownia Leaves Order (Kunhattō Hakushoku style=\"margin:0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size:medium; font-family:"Times New Roman"; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-style:normal; font-variant-caps:normal; font-weight:normal; letter-spacing:normal; orphans:auto; text-align:start; text-indent:0px; text-transform:none; white-space:normal; word-spacing:0px; text-decoration:none;\">

Condition: medal oxidized, minor scratches, ribbon with soiling,stainingand discoloration, minor staining inside the box. Lapel rosette with minor discoloration. Scratches and abrasions on the box.
