- PRODUCT HISTORY: The M58 Flächentarn model was released between 1956 and 1967 to units of the East German Army (NVA) and Ministry of the Interior (MDI). Also nicknamed Kartoffelmuster (potato camouflage) or Blumentarn (flower camouflage), the pattern generally consists of irregular blue-green, olive green, and brown spots on a field gray background. Several slight color variations have been documented, some of which may appear darker due to their coating with gaseous chemicals (which have also given the fabric a waxy texture). Different types of jacket, pants, field gear, half shelter, and hood/hat have been produced with this model.
