RARE Imperial Russia Ornate Star Medal 200 years of Moscow Infantry 1700 - 1900:
$100.00

This listing is for an excellent, and extremely rare, medal from the imperial Russian era. This is an ORIGINAL medal from the era, NOT A REPRODUCTION! I know the market has been flooded by fakes, so I felt it important to specify.

I have been able to find almost no information on this hard to find piece of history, however what I have found in my research seems to say that this medal was made to honor the 200th anniversary of the 65th Moscow Infantry Regiment, one of the oldest and most recognized regiments of the Russian Imperial Army. The regiment was formed in Moscow in 1700 by one General Golovin. The regiment received its “baptism of fire” on November 19, 1700 near Narva.

In 1900, for the celebration of the anniversary, the regiment received a new St. George banner as well. I believe St. George is pictured in the center of this medal. On the left side I believe is the symbol of the Badge Of The Life Guards Cuirassier, personal guards to the empress. I determined this based off a similar medal I found, but it had a different shape and only that symbol. My assumption is that the symbol opposite it would be the guards of the emperor. The Russian word across the top I assume translates to infantry or something similar. It has some light vintage wear, not no heavy gouges scratches or bends. The screw-back is still straight and unbent as well.

I am not quite sure what kind of medal this is, or where exactly it went on a uniform. My guess is this would belong either on a hat / helmet, or a bandolier. This guess is based of of United States military medals I have seen from similar time periods. It does have a makers mark or hallmark of some sort on the back- see the closeup photo- but I am unable to read it. To my observation, everything about this medal is 100% authentic.

A fantastic part of military history not to be missed at this price. It would be extremely hard to find a much better example than this medal, especially one that is not a cheaply made reproduction. Screw-on backing is missing, and therefore not included, but could be easily replaced. Comes as is-as shown, please see photos for measurements & details.
